Who We Are

Music Teachers of Eastern New Mexico is a local association of dedicated music educators, affiliated with the Professional Music Teachers of New Mexico (PMTNM) and the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA). We share MTNA's mission to "advance the value of music study and music making to society and to support the professionalism of music teachers."

By uniting teachers across our region, we strive to foster excellence in teaching and promote the lifelong benefits of music education in our communities.

As an MTNA affiliate, we benefit from this rich legacy and nationwide community. Being part of MTNA links our local members to a supportive network of 22,000 colleagues nationwide – an invaluable resource for sharing ideas, advice, and encouragement.

Founded in 1876, MTNA has been the undisputed leader in empowering music-teaching professionals for nearly a century and a half. Today, MTNA is a powerful alliance of over 20,000 music educators in all 50 states, providing a collective voice for our profession and an indispensable partner in each teacher's growth and development.

Eastern New Mexico's proximity to Texas creates unique opportunities for cross-border collaboration and regional networking. We actively engage with music teacher associations and educational communities in neighboring Texas regions to expand opportunities for our members.

Texas MTNA Affiliates

We maintain active connections with MTNA affiliates in West Texas, including associations in key cities that are easily accessible from Eastern New Mexico:

  • Lubbock, Texas: Approximately 2-3 hours from Eastern New Mexico, Lubbock hosts a vibrant music education community with Texas Tech University and numerous private studios. We collaborate on joint workshops and student events.
  • Amarillo, Texas: Located about 2 hours from Eastern New Mexico, Amarillo's music teacher association provides opportunities for cross-border networking and shared professional development.
  • Midland-Odessa, Texas: The Permian Basin region offers connections with music educators in this thriving West Texas community, creating opportunities for regional collaboration.
  • El Paso, Texas: While further south, El Paso's proximity to New Mexico creates natural connections for music educators in the southern part of our region.
